Support many open standards including Java. Lotus Notes has its’ own scripting language called Lotus Script and a function based formula language called @functions. For web-based applications, these languages combined with design elements can be combined to produce outputs in the form of HTML, XHTML and XML and the Lotus proprietary DXL (Domino XML). Lotus Notes clients and Domino servers can execute agents. Agents act similar to stored procedures and extend lotus script and Java functionality to provide creative mechanism for handling XML and XSLT to transform data into other formats either XHTML or PDF for instance.
Lotus script can provide the ability to create and manipulate MS Excel and MS Word documents through COM and DCOM utilises similar code to Visual Basic. Not only that but, its' provision of these facilities is contained within a secure environment. The latest version of the software now extends operations by additional tools for Web Services, Web DAV and relation database extensions to the basic package.
Much of which is also cross platform and open standard compliant.

Notes411 aims to show examples of the above in practice, to share knowledge of how we have accomplished some of the above procedures in our career experience. Where possible to help others who are having difficulties in achieving their own Lotus Notes and Domino usage, development and Administration goals. In doing so we will also show how to use the technology in new and intelligent directions that may not have been considered before. |
